Research Areas

MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

Focusing on non-coding RNAs.

Non-coding RNAs (such as microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs) have been identified as important class of gene and disease regulators. Additionally, they are promising targets for disease intervention.

MACROVASCULATURE

Focusing on arterial stiffness.

Arterial stiffness has emerged as an independent risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Therefore, arterial stiffness has received increasing attention in cardiovascular medicine. In particular, arterial stiffness is of great interest in the context of cardiovascular aging.

MICROVASCULATURE

Focusing on chronic vascular disease.

Microvascular disease is a highly interdisciplinary field, connecting vascular disease to various other medical disciplines including nephrology, endocrinology and neurology.

TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH

Bridging the gap between bench and bedside.

Being able to utilize findings from basic science to enhance human health and well-being is at the center of translational research.

The latter provides patients with medical innovation that is critically needed to improve clinical therapy.

There are various ways to achieve this goal including being a scientific entrepreneur.
